The Journey Begins

Hi,

This is my first blog post about my journey. A little history.

In 1957, my parents adopted me from St. Mary’s Hospital in Upstate, NY. I have had a very good life and of course wondered who my biological parents were and what was my story.  I was never overly obsessed but of course curious.

Fast forward to 2014 and I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. Good News! The cancer was removed and chemo completed by the end of 2014 and I continue to be in good health.

Then in the Spring of 2015 I was visiting a good friend and we started to discuss DNA testing.  She was thinking about it because she was curious about her ethnic make up (she was not adopted) and I started thinking about it more curious about discovering any hidden medical issues. As an adopted person every time you go to a doctor and they ask you about your history your response is “I don’t know, I am adopted.”

So I tested on Ancestry, 23&Me, and Family Tree DNA in 2015.

This blog will recount my journey discussing DNA testing, genealogical research, building my family tree and all things associated.  In addition I will write about baking and posting pictures and recipes.  And I will touch on cancer and how to this day having it continues to change and effect my friends and me.

Hence the name The ABC Blog (Adoption, Baking and Cancer).

Thank you for visiting my blog and I look forward to seeing you in the future.

  1. Love it!! I am so pleased and proud (in fact, a few tears are coming) to be a part of your journey. And you’ve inspired me to think about my own blog! Great intro to the ABC’s.

  2. I am so impressed you ate downing this, butt then again considering your determination and diligence in your DNA research I should not be surprised! Can’t wait to keep reading.
